Areas Treated With Fat Transfer
Multiple areas of the face can start to look “hollowed” with age and benefit from a fat transfer treatment, including the:
- Cheeks
- Lips
- Below the eyes
- Nasolabial folds (the lines running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth)
- Forehead
Dr. Alessi will obtain the adipose tissue needed for fat transfer from a separate location on the body. Typically, this could be from the abdominal region, flanks, or thighs.
Is Fat Grafting Right for Me?
During your consultation with Dr. Alessi, he’ll ask important questions about your medical history and allergies to determine the safest and most effective treatment plan to match your aesthetic goals. Since we use your own tissue during fat transfer, the procedure carries almost zero risk of bodily rejection. Additionally, it can be a great choice for subtle, natural results.
However, fat transfer might not be your only option. For instance, dermal fillers can be an excellent alternative for patients without enough body fat for transfer. Or, Dr. Alessi could recommend cheek or chin implants for a more significant increase in volume to the face.
What Happens During Fat Grafting Surgery?
If approved for fat grafting, the first step will be the administration of anesthesia to ensure your comfort. For small amounts of fat movement (as is often the case with facial versions of this procedure), the treatment is frequently performed with the help of local anesthesia. Alternatively, Dr. Alessi could decide that general anesthesia is the better choice.
Next, he will make a small incision in the predetermined harvesting area. Dr. Alessi breaks up the targeted fat tissue with a cannula using a back-and-forth motion. He can then suction it out through the cannula and purify it. Finally, Dr. Alessi strategically injects the purified fat where needed for improved facial definition.
After Your Procedure
The fat transfer recovery period varies based on the exact nature of the procedure but is generally characterized by one to two weeks of mild swelling. You may also be asked to wear compression bandages to help your facial features adhere to their new shape. Dr. Alessi will provide personalized directions regarding when it is appropriate to return to work and the gym.
How Much Does Fat Transfer Cost?
The cost of your fat transfer will depend on which facial areas are being treated, the number of areas, and the amount of adipose tissue that needs to be harvested. If your fat grafting procedure is combined with other protocols, this could also affect the price of your treatment plan.
